ESSENTIAL TASKS
- ●Ability to traverse different terrain in all climates.
- ●Under general supervision, conducts routine comprehensive site inspections and/or inspects commercial, residential, and/or new or existing projects to ensure compliance with all codes required by County ordinance.
- ●Schedules and performs routine to complex inspections of residential building construction for compliance with applicable building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, accessibility, and fire safety codes.
- ●Enters inspection requests and results daily and establishes and maintains accurate and complete inspection files.
- ●Examines plats, site plan, manufacturer specifications, architectural and engineered drawings to ensure compliance with related codes
- ●Reports to the Building Official.
- ●Attend training, seminars, conferences, and meetings to stay informed of Federal, State, and local laws.
- ●Ability to communicate with the public in a professional manner.
- ●Performs other duties assigned by the Building Official and Planning and Zoning director (e.g. zoning code enforcement).
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- ●Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three years of experience in building inspection or construction.
- ●Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- ●Position requires work related to a specific trade such as Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing for a minimum of three years; or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and education.
- ●Inspectors must be certified by ICC-International Code Council certification program or equivalent as a Residential Combination Inspector within one year from the date of employment; and the completion of Commercial Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Certification within two years from the date of employment.
- ●Preferred candidate to be certified through the South Carolina Building Codes Council as a combination inspector or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
- ●Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver’s License and a copy of a 10-year Motor Vehicle Record and required.
- ●Knowledge of basic computer programs.
