The Kershaw County Unified Code of Zoning and Land Development Regulations requires the Planning and Zoning Department to review and approve all plats for the subdivision of land within the unincorporated area of Kershaw County before the plat is recorded with the Register of Deeds (formerly the Clerk of Court). In order to assist the applicant and plat preparer with providing all of the information necessary for Planning and Zoning officials to make timely and accurate decisions on plat approvals, P&Z has developed Plat Approval Guidelines.
The Planning and Zoning Department also coordinates the administrative and Planning Commission review and approval of major residential subdivisions, commercial, industrial, apartment complex, and other large development projects. The following table lists the seven classifications of land development projects and the divisions of Kershaw County government that are responsible for the review and approval of applications for these land development projects.
