The primary function of Kershaw County Code Enforcement is to assist Kershaw County residents in resolving problems with stray or unrestrained animals, litter, and other code issues.
For problems with stray or unrestrained animals, officers can remove the animals or talk with owners and advise them of restraint laws and work with them to secure animals. If this approach does not work, the owner of the animal may be issued a citation to appear in court for not restraining the animal. All code enforcement officers are sworn law enforcement officers, and can issue citations for violations of any county or state law regarding animals.
For litter issues, Code Enforcement officers investigate litter complaints and can issue citations for littering.
Code Enforcement Officers also work with Planning and Zoning and other county departments to enforce codes and can issue citations or summons.
